Fumes emitted from roofing during fire

No smoke without fire, or vice versa.  When there is a fire in a building, many different types of fumes are formed, depending on the chemical composition of the building materials.  Such fumes have varying degrees of toxicity and different colours.

According to the precautionary principle all types of smoke should be regarded as being toxic.  The tabular contains a description of typical types of fumes that are formed from burning roofing materials.  The degree of soot formation which affects the colour of the smoke is also specified.
