10 important contributions to a more sustainable direction:
1. Long service life
During the last 40 years Protan roofing membranes have been installed on roofs in different climatic zones ranging from the deserts of Africa to the tundra of Spitsbergen. These are robust products that ensure long service life in all weather conditions.
2. Complete lifetime analysis
The total environmental impact during the entire lifetime of Protan roofing has been confirmed through third party environmental product declarations. Compared to other traditional products Protan roofing has typically:
-
30% less contribution to greenhouse gases.
-
80% less environmental impact during transport.
-
70% less stored raw material energy on the roof.
3. Easy logistics
Protan roofing means light materials and efficient logistics. Tailor-made rolls minimise transport burdens as wells as building site waste.
4. Low weight
Protan roofing results in both a minimum of stored raw material energy on the roof and low emissions during transport.
5. Safe use of chemicals
Protan roofing is made of REACH-approved raw materials and does not contain any substances found on the Observation-list drawn up by the Norwegian Pollution Control Authority (SFT). Protan also complies with the requirements of the Swedish BASTA system.
6. Effective waste handling
Waste from production- and construction sites are recycled at the Protan plant in Norway. Old roofing materials can be recycled through RoofCollect (see www.roofcollect.com).
7. Unique tailor-making
Protan is a pioneer when it comes to prefab roof manufacturing. Roofing sheets are made-to-measure at one of our converting plants., thereby enabling rapid installation at the construction site. This results in a minimum of waste and ensures a watertight roof in no time.
8. Exceptional fire-retardant properties
Protan roofing is made of environmentally friendly, self-extinguishing PVC. No other roofing material on the market offers these properties.
9. Additional fire safety
All joining are carried out with hot-air welding machines. This further increases the fire safety on the roof and is particularly advantageous during renovation work. The low weight of Protan roofing also means a minimum of stored raw material energy on the roof.
10. Quality and HSE aspects
Protan works with a quality and environmental control system based on ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards and actively complies with chemical substitution requirements. This contributes to the production of environmentally friendly PVC. Protan prioritises health, safety and the environment. The ultimate goal is to avoid all occupational accidents, both in the production facilities and on the roof.
