Wind forces are strongest along the edges of a roof. A roof edge with an upstand is known as a parapet, and if the roof covering is not securely fixed, wind damage can easily occur. The Protan Parapet System provides a safe, tested solution that ensures reliable protection even under extreme wind loads.
The system combines the Protan Steel Bar with a prefabricated Parapet Skirt featuring a welded strip or pocket for secure attachment. This integrated solution ensures both watertight performance and optimal wind resistance.
The Protan Parapet Skirt is a roofing membrane with a reinforced strip or pocket pre-welded to the reverse side. It is supplied in standard colours and dimensions but can also be produced to project-specific requirements. For higher parapets, additional fastening on the vertical surface is recommended, and the Parapet Skirt can be supplied with extra welded strips.
At the transition between the roof surface and the parapet, Protan requires linear fastening of the membrane. The Steel Bar provides excellent air sealing and continuous retention, while minimising point loading at welds and fixings. Its strength and rigidity ensure that horizontal and vertical forces are evenly distributed across the structure.
Protan accepts several technical solutions for parapet fastening, but only Protan-approved steel bars must be used to ensure performance and warranty compliance.
