Located beneath the Kozjak mountain between the Split and Kaštela area and the Vučevica interchange on the A1 motorway, the tunnel will significantly reduce traffic congestion on the coastal road (D8) while improving access to Split’s port, airport and the wider Dalmatian region.
The project includes the construction of a 2.5-kilometre tunnel, approximately 4.3 kilometres of connecting road, as well as several overpasses and supporting infrastructure. Construction began in 2024, with completion expected around 2027.
The tunnel is being built by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), a major international contractor known in Croatia for the construction of the Pelješac Bridge. The project is commissioned by Hrvatske Ceste, the Croatian national road authority.
Once completed, the Kozjak Tunnel will play an important role in improving traffic flow, strengthening regional connectivity and supporting economic activity in the Split metropolitan area.
