What to consider before installation

Before installing a sedum roof, several factors must be evaluated:

Existing roof condition
- Less than 5 years → often suitable
- 5–10 years → requires assessment
- 10–15 years → refurbishment is typically recommended
Structural capacity
Can the building handle the additional load?
Climate conditions
Wind, rainfall and temperature variations affect system design
Installation conditions
Sedum systems should not be installed in freezing conditions

Maintenance and operation

Sedum roofs are low-maintenance, but not maintenance-free.

Snow can act as a natural protective layer during winter.

When installing additional elements such as vegetation or solar panels, extended roof warranties may not apply, as the membrane must remain accessible for inspection.
